Award-winning journalist to keynote FIU Faculty Convocation

MIAMITIME magazine Senior Correspondent Michael Grunwald, a nationally-acclaimed author recognized for his work on the Florida Everglades, will be the keynote speaker this week at FIU’s Faculty Convocation and Awards Ceremony, underscoring the university’s “go green” initiatives.

Grunwald’s 2006 book, “The Swamp: The Everglades, Florida, and the Politics of Paradise”, received the gold medal for non-fiction at the Florida Book Awards. He will discuss “The Everglades and Florida: The Past and the Future” at the annual event, which serves to honor faculty selected for recognition by their peers. Faculty Convocation is scheduled to take place at 9 a.m. on September 19th at the Wertheim Performing Arts Center at Florida International University’s University Park, 11200 S.W. 8th Street in Miami.

Grunwald also has covered the Justice Department and Congress for The Washington Post and, among other recognitions, is the recipient of the Worth Bingham Prize for investigative reporting and the Society of Environmental Journalists’ award for in-depth reporting.
