It was supposed to be a special treat for the Florida International University community.
Big name, Grammy award-winning singer John Legend was to perform on campus Wednesday night. Posters announcing the event were everywhere at both campuses. Students stood in long lines for the $20 general admission tickets.
On Tuesday, Legend canceled the concert scheduled at the U.S. Century Arena at the University Park campus. The concert was open only to students, faculty and alumni.
''The Student Government Association was notified last night that a member of John Legend's family had passed away,'' a press release issued by the student group said. “Due to these unforeseen events, A Night with John Legend will not take place as planned.''
A new concert date is being negotiated. For now, those with tickets should hold on to them.
