Frost’s Modern Masters from the Smithsonian American Art Museum to Close This Weekend

Miami, (March 12, 2009)
– The Frost’s inaugural exhibit, Modern Masters from the Smithsonian American Art Museum, will close to the public Sunday, March 15, 2009, after a two week extension. The Frost is the first stop on a national tour for the show. This exhibit features 31 artists who transformed American art in the years after World War II.

Modern Masters from the Smithsonian American Art Museum is a world-class exhibition befitting a world-class museum,” said Carol Damian, director and chief curator of The Frost. “This may be the final opportunity for many to experience these incredible works of art.”

The Frost Art Museum opened its current 46,000-square-foot state of the art building in November 2008. Nearly 10,000 people have visited the new building located at 10975 SW 17th St. across from the Blue garage and adjacent to the Wertheim Performing Arts Center at University Park in west Miami-Dade. The museum is open from Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday noon-5 p.m. Admission to the museum is always free.

The exhibition includes 43 key paintings and sculptures selected from the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s collection. Five of the pieces were donated to the Smithsonian American Art Museum from the private collection of Patricia and Phillip Frost. The exhibition includes such artists as Franz Kline, Michael Goldberg, Josef Alvers, Louise Nevelson, Romare Bearden, Larry Rivers and Jim Dine.
This exhibition was funded partly by Funding Arts Network and the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs, the Florida Arts Council, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
