Green thumb

David Trujillo, garden coordinator, tends to his plants at FIU’s organic garden.

The garden, which began as part of a sustainable agriculture class, features two 40×5-foot beds with an edible landscape (plants that produce food in lieu of more commonly used ornamental plants). Students help plant, weed and water the beds all by hand.

FIU’s organic garden serves as a demonstration plot for a proposed community extension plan in Miami.
