FIYou profile: Matt Herzberger

Name: Matt Herzberger

Hometown: Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Job Title/Department: Director of Web Communications

Campus: University Park

In a nutshell: I’m here to create a new beautiful, functional Web presence from the ground up. I will be working with people from across campus to create a Web culture on campus while pushing best practices and standards.

Number of years at FIU: I’ve been here for just over a month.

What do you enjoy most about your job? So far I’m enjoying realizing the challenges that lie ahead.

What do you think faculty/staff and students should know about your department? We are looking to make the university’s Web site a much more user-friendly experience with an emphasis on each audience’s needs.

Where is your favorite spot on campus? Why? Well, I suppose the Graham Center since it is the only place I have been to other than my office.

If there is one thing you wish everyone knew about FIU, what would it be? It has a beautiful campus.

Family snapshot: It’s me, my wife, McKinley, and our two cats, Jack and Jill.

Word that best describes you: Determined.

First paying job: I was a soccer referee when I was in middle school. The pay was good: I’d make $40 a game. And if you wanted to keep in shape it also helped with that.

Favorite TV show: “South Park.”

Your proudest accomplishment: Moving on after college and moving across the country to chase my dream of being a Web rock star!

What do you do when you are not working at FIU? In general I love movies – I have a huge collection. And everything Web-related; you’ll have to pry my laptop and iPhone from my cold dead hands. So far in Miami I am trying to take in a new experience every week. I guess that would make me a resident tourist.
