Coming soon: 2010 benefits Open Enrollment period, Sept. 14-Oct. 9

Find out what you can do to prepare for FIU’s Open Enrollment period.

By Trudy Fernandez

Open Enrollment for FIU benefits-eligible employees will be in effect from Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, through Friday, Oct. 9, 2009. This is the time of year when you can make changes to your benefits options – add/remove dependents, change benefits plans and enroll in new programs.

Helpful tips in preparing for Open Enrollment:

1.      Verify your home mailing address:

Prior to the start of Open Enrollment, People First will be mailing you an Open Enrollment package directly to the home address indicated in our payroll systems. We encourage employees to update their mailing address through the quick and easy online process available at Employee Self-Service (ESS). You can enroll in ESS by following these steps:

Changing your address via Employee Self Service (ESS)

Step 1: Access the Employee Self Service (ESS) home page at https://portal.adp.com/public/index.htm

Step 2: Login to ESS using your ESS login ID and password*

Step 3: Choose the menu option titled ‘Myself’

Step 4: Click on the ‘Edit’ button under your personal information

Step 5: Enter new address information

Step 6: Click ‘Save’ to complete the change

Step 7: You have now completed the process of changing your address through ESS.

*If you do not know your ESS login ID or password, or have difficulties accessing the site, you may call (305) 348-2181 for further assistance.

2.      Know your benefits:

Review your current benefits elections. You may access your current benefits elections, and view dependents enrolled in each benefit plan through the People First website at https://peoplefirst.myflorida.com/logon.htm

If you do not know your People First User ID or need assistance navigating through their website, please contact People First directly at 1-866-663-4735.

3.      Attend an “Understanding Your Benefits” workshop:

Benefits Administration will facilitate “Understanding Your Benefits” workshops during the month of September to assist you in making informed decisions about your benefits elections.  Additional information about the workshops will be coming soon.

We encourage you to visit the Division of Human Resources website for additional benefits information at http://hr.fiu.edu/uploads/index.php?name=benefits_administration, or contact us directly by calling (305) 348-7259.
