FIU Presidential Search Process enters final phase

Updated at 10 a.m.

The Presidential Search Advisory Committee began their review process this morning during the final phase of the presidential search. The 26-member committee met at the Hotel Sofitel to review a list of 34 candidates.

The intense period that began today is expected to conclude on April 25th with the announcement of the new university president. The selected candidate will succeed Modesto A. Maidique, who is stepping down after serving as President of FIU for 23 years.

The Committee started the morning with a discussion about the process and a reaffirmation of their commitment to giving all candidates equal treatment and consideration. The search process was specifically designed to respond to the needs of candidates undergoing a presidential search process in the sunshine and attract high-caliber talent.

At the end of the day today, the committee is expected to advance 10 to 15 candidates who will be invited to South Florida for interviews that will take place Sunday and Monday.

By the end of Monday, up to 5 candidates will be forwarded to the Board of Trustees Presidential Search Committee for consideration.

On Tuesday, the BOT Presidential Search Committee will invite up to three of the candidates to participate in full-day interviews with members of the internal university constituency and community supporters. These interviews are scheduled on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of next week.

On Saturday, April 25, the BOT Presidential Search Committee will select one or two candidates to present to the full board. The final selection of the board that afternoon will need to be ratified by the Board of Governor.

More details about the search process can be found on the Presidential Search website, including a full timeline of the process.
