The art of DNA

Bucaneer Helix

Bucanner Helix, one of several pieces from internationally recognized multimedia artist Nela Ochoa’s exhibit “Genetic Portraits,” explores the mysteries of DNA through art. Helix is made from plastic baseball bats, lycra, nylon and chains.

Ochoa’s interest in the human body has led her to work with medical images such as X-rays and MRIs, integrating them into videos, paintings and installations. Her most recent work has led her further into the body, where she explores the mysteries of DNA.

“Genetic Portraits” will be on view at the Frost Art Museum through Sept. 6.
