LACC to host book presentation on Cuban revolution

Who truly organized the 26 of July Movement? Who was responsible for the guerilla forces led by Fidel Castro in the Sierra Maestra? In his book, “Frank País: Architect of Cuba’s Betrayed Revolution,” author José Alvarez contends that Frank País was the real mastermind of the Cuban Revolution and was betrayed by Castro. Alvarez will discuss the book on June 8 at Books & Books in Coral Gables.

Fifty years after the Cuban revolution, FIU’s Latin American and Caribbean Center and Cuban Research Institute will sponsor a presentation by José Alvarez on his book, “Frank País: Architect of Cuba’s Betrayed Revolution,” on Monday, June 8 at Books & Books (265 Aragon Ave., Coral Gables).

In his work, Alvarez explores Frank País’ life and legacy as well as his role in the 26 of July Movement. Alvarez was himself an active member of the movement from its foundation in 1955 until its dissolution in 1961, when he broke ties with the Castro Government and left Cuba for the United States.

The event is scheduled for 8 p.m. and is free and open to the public. For more information, call 305-348-2894.
