The new system by Proofpoint replaces the Mirapoint anti-spam and anti-virus system.
As part of FIU’s effort to improve its services, the Division of IT has introduced a new anti-spam and anti-virus system powered by Proofpoint, Inc.
This new system replaces the Mirapoint anti-spam and anti-virus system, also known as the Junk Mail Manager.
Proofpoint defends FIU’s e-mail systems against inbound threats such as spam, viruses, phishing and denial-of-service attacks. Messages flagged as spam by the system are quarantined and remain accessible in real time by FIUmail users (i.e., faculty/staff only) logging in with their username and password. The system sends Daily End User Digest messages containing all the e-mails that were flagged as spam that day.
FIUmail users can add any of the flagged messages into their inbox or add the senders to their safe list directly from the digest message. The quarantine mailbox retains 14 days worth of spam messages. The old Mirapoint “White Lists” and “Black Lists” have been ported to the new system.

Is this for student mail or faculty and staff? I thought Google handled all the student emails and the faculty staff just migrated from Notes to Exchange (good move BTW!). Just wondering. While we are on the mail security subject, how about hardening the outgoing smtp server so it's not so easy to send spam/spoof email from within FIU. Just a thought.
Kudos to improving IT security!
Nice move! I use Proofpoint and it’s been great. With regard to spam/spoofmail being sent from FIU, Proofpoint will provide you guys will all the same filtering outbound as it does inbound. This should help you to identify infected machines and avoid being blacklisted. Enjoy…Proofpoint ROCKS!
