Weather hurricane season with Panther Alerts

A text messaging system available to the blue-and-gold community, and receive notifications during an emergency affecting FIU.

The 2009 hurricane season, which officially began June 1, is forecast to be a fairly active one. As part of FIU’s emergency preparedness, students, faculty, staff, friends and family can receive text messages providing important updates during emergencies from university officials.

This service is free; however, normal text message fees from your carrier may apply. To receive text messages, your cell phone must have text messaging capabilities.

Panther Alerts is one component of FIU’s emergency notification system. FIU also has installed outdoor speakers at its campuses and placed emergency Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phones in classrooms. University officials also alert the university community during emergencies through electronic signs at the entrances of University Park and Biscayne Bay Campus, and local news outlets.
