FIU Athletics welcomes new diving coach, two new divers


Chris Mantilla has been tapped as FIU’s new diving coach. He arrives at the university along with incoming divers Victoria Lesley and Jamie Stinson.

The FIU has a new diving coach in Chris Mantilla, an NCAA champion.

After a successful high school career, Mantilla attended the University of Miami from 1994-’99.

While at UM, he won an NCAA championship. His various accomplishments also include a World Cup silver medal, four U.S. National Championships, and two U.S. Junior National Championships.

With his arrival at FIU, Mantilla welcomes to the blue-and-gold diving squad freshmen Jamie Stinson and Victoria Lesley.

Stinson makes the trip down to Miami after competing for Buchholz High School in Gainesville. While at Buchholz, Stinson was named the most valuable diver her senior year. She also earned first place at the city meet and first place at the district meet.

Lesley comes to FIU from John A. Ferguson High School in Miami where she was named the 2009 Distinguished Senior Athlete for Swimming and Diving.

Two years ago, Lesley earned an All-Dade honorable mention.
