The Wolfsonian-FIU screens “Guilty Pleasures”


The summer film series debuts Aug. 6 with “Neptune’s Daughter” in The Wolfsonian auditorium.

The Wolfsonian-FIU’s film series, “Guilty Pleasures: Love & Carnage on the Beach,” celebrates classic summer flicks every Thursday evening in August at 7 p.m., with an encore presentation the following Thursday at 1 p.m. in The Dynamo Cafe and Museum Shop. 

Evening screenings are free for members and FIU students. Afternoon screenings are free with a $5 or more purchase at the Dynamo café or shop.

Aug. 6: “Neptune’s Daughter” (1949). Filmed in Weeki Wachee Springs, Florida, this romantic comedy stars Esther Williams as a swimsuit designer and Ricardo Montalban as a polo player.

Aug. 13: “Where the Boys Are” (1960). Starring George Hamilton, Yvette Mimieux, Jim Hutton and Connie Francis, the film follows four college girls looking for love and excitement during their spring break vacation in Ft. Lauderdale.

Aug. 20: “Clambake” (1967). Set in Miami, this classic stars Elvis Presley as a millionaire who switches identities to find out if his love interest likes him for himself or his money.

Aug. 27: “Jaws” (1975). In this Steven Speilberg blockbuster, an idyllic New England town becomes frenzied when a great white shark attacks swimmers. Part-time sheriff (Roy Scheider) and marine biologist (Richard Dreyfuss) team up to catch the man-eater.
