FIU’s telephone system scheduled for upgrade

The service will be interrupted intermittently during the Labor Day weekend Sept. 5-7.

As part of the process of upgrading FIU’s telephone system, the service will be interrupted intermittently during the Labor Day weekend Sept. 5-7. The upgrade is needed to continue with the manufacturer’s technical support.

Aug 26 2In order to prepare for the upgrade, the Division of Information Technology will need to stop any changes made to the telephone system beginning on Friday, Aug. at 5 p.m. This means that no additions, deletions or changes of telephone numbers or features can be made until the upgrade is completed.

After the upgrade, there will be some noticeable improvements, including the ability to use your FIUmail username and password to log in to your Telephone User Uptions Webpage. Also, because of the upgrade, users should expect the following:

  • Any line that you forward to another number after 5 p.m. on Aug. 28 will revert back to the setting in place before that time. Be sure to check that any forwarded lines are working properly after the upgrade.
  • The default ring tone on your phone may reset to the factory default settings. For detailed instructions on changing the ring tone on your phone, click here.
  • When dialing to or from an area within FIU that has a call center, you may notice the number 42 or 43 appears before the dialed number on your display. You should ignore those extra numbers and continue to dial as you always have. This is a temporary display issue that will be addressed after the upgrade.

For more information or to report any difficulties with their telephones after the upgrade, FIU telephone system users should contact the UTS Support Center at 305-348-2284.
