Celebrating faculty excellence

FIU to honor outstanding faculty and ‘share a sense of promise for our university’s future’ at Faculty Convocation.

FIU will hold its annual Faculty Convocation Week Sept. 16-18, celebrating the collective pride and individual accomplishments of the university’s academics, who are selected for recognition by their peers.

We begin this academic year with enormous pride in all that we have accomplished together and with great expectations for the year ahead,” said Kirsten Wood, Faculty Convocation chairperson. “During the Convocation ceremonies, we honor our distinguished faculty and share a sense of promise for our university’s future.”

The series of events starts with a Sept. 16 concert courtesy of the FIU School of Music faculty and student ensembles showcasing an eclectic mix of Music from the Americas. A reception at the Frost Art Museum will immediately follow the event.

The grand convocation and awards ceremony will be held in the afternoon this year to accommodate faculty teaching schedules. The event will be held Thursday, Sept. 17, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. FIU President Mark Rosenberg is this year’s keynote speaker and will explore The Life of the Mind in the 21st Century.

Faculty and practitioners will participate in a discussion and exchange with the audience about Rosenberg’s keynote address at the Faculty Convocation and Faculty Awards Ceremony. As in the past, this casual luncheon will conclude the week’s celebrations.
