FIU volleyball brings winning streak home, set to open SBC play at U.S. Century Bank


The Golden Panthers defeated South Alabama, 3-0, on Sept. 27 and swept over Troy, also 3-0, on Sept. 25 in their first Sun Belt Conference games of the season. The team will open SBC play at home at Modesto A. Maidique Campus on Oct. 2 against Western Kentucky.

Following triumphs over Troy and South Alabama Sept. 25-27, FIU’s volleyball team is 12-2 on the season, and 2-0 in Sun Belt Conference (SBC) action, going into its first SBC home game against Western Kentucky on Friday, Oct. 2.

The Golden Panthers’ MVP, senior Yarimar Rosa, was named SBC Volleyball Player of the Week, according to a vote by the league’s 13 head coaches. The honor is the 10th of its kind for the three-time All-American student-athlete, an SBC record.

The FIU-Western Kentucky match is set for 6:30 p.m. at U.S. Century Arena at Modesto A. Maidique Campus. The blue-and-gold team will face off against Middle Tennessee, at 1 p.m., on Oct. 4.
