Historic Town Hall to bring together Miami-Dade’s three top education leaders

MIAMI — President Mark B. Rosenberg, Superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public School Alberto Carvalho and Miami-Dade College President Eduardo Padrón will host a one-of-a-kind town hall meeting to address the future course of education in South Florida. The entire FIU community is invited to participate.

The town hall meeting, which is sponsored by Univision Radio, will be conducted in Spanish. It will take place on Wednesday, September 30th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Chapman Conference Center in Miami-Dade College’s Wolfson Campus, 300 N.E. 2^nd Ave. in Miami and will be broadcast live on WQBA 1140 AM.

Carvalho and Padrón will join Rosenberg to discuss the region’s increasing educational demands during a time of shrinking resources in a forum entitled “Education in South Florida: Challenges and Solutions.”

“It is imperative that we sit down with our education partners as well as engage our community to find sensible solutions to the challenges we have in common,” said Rosenberg. “Just about everyone in Miami-Dade looks to one or more of our institutions for a better future for themselves and their families. We must forge partnerships where it makes most sense to help uplift our community.”

Students, parents, educators and other interested parties are invited to attend and participate in this unique forum, which is free and open to the public.

The forum responds to President Rosenberg’s Hit the Ground Running initiative, which calls for local community engagement.

“The fate of our three institutions is linked to the fate of this community,” said Rosenberg, who has lived in South Florida for more than 30 years. “We can address just about every community challenge by strengthening our educational institutions.”

Rosenberg added that he would like to see strong FIU participation at the meeting. “As a university we have quite a bit to offer our community,” he said.
