FIYou - Kristina Sanchez

Name: Kristina Sanchez ’07, MS ’10

Hometown: Miami, Fla.

Job Title/Department: Production Manager, Office of Publications

Campus: Modesto A. Maidique Campus

In a nutshell: When any department across both campuses needs a design and/or printing project done, they call me first. I speak with the client and distinguish what it is they need and want. I then obtain the best cost and manage the job from start to finish in a timely, cost-effective and high-quality manner.

Number of years at FIU: Four years as a student assistant and two years as production manager.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Seeing the finished product of our jobs, from the student Welcome Week banners hanging around campus to the beautiful programs for President Rosenberg’s installation ceremony to the new FIU logo, which was months in the making. Also, the high energy that engulfs my office everyday to get things done.

What do you think faculty/staff and students should know about your department?

We are here to help you design (and print) beautiful marketing tools to get your word out to the university and community at large.

Where is your favorite spot on campus? Why?

The Frost Art Museum. It’s just a gorgeous building.

If there is one thing you wish everyone knew about FIU, what would it be?

We are here and on the rise!

Family snapshot:

I am the youngest of three girls and was made an aunt by the age of 12. I now have four nephews who I love and spoil whenever I can, but they all live in different states. I currently live at home with my Cuban-born, New York-raised mother. My boyfriend of four years, Chris Mur [pictured here], also works at FIU in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. He’s getting his degree in computer engineering.

Word that best describes you: Eager.

First paying job: Forever XXI in Dolphin Mall.

Favorite TV show: “Lost”

Your proudest accomplishment:

Graduating magna cum laude from FIU with a degree in English and pursuing my master’s, also in English, while working full time.

What do you do when you are not working at FIU?

I read and I write, mainly for my thesis in English literature. But I do enjoy a great meal followed by a good movie.
