Jorge Camilo Mora, M.D., is the newest member of the FIU Employee Health Services, a group practice of the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine clinical faculty, available to FIU faculty and staff for primary care services at Modesto A. Maidique Campus (MMC).

An assistant professor in the College of Medicine, Mora is board certified in family practice and has more than 15 years of experience.

Prior to his position at FIU, Mora, a graduate of the Harvard School of Public Health, worked at the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center and the North Broward Hospital District treating adults from underserved populations. Earlier in his career, he worked for the François-Xavier Bagnoud (FXB) U.S. Foundation, coordinating and training teams from 10 different countries to collect epidemiological information regarding HIV/AIDS. At the University of Texas, he was responsible for the day-to-day operations of Community Programs for Clinical Research on AIDS (CPCRA) at the Houston AIDS Research Team (HART).

In 2007, Mora completed his training in family medicine at the Tallahassee Memorial Family Medicine Residency Program. During the last year of his residency, he served as a chief resident.

Mora’s interest includes alternative medicine, geriatrics, infectious diseases; and health and human rights.

News@FIU recently caught up with Mora to discuss his commitment to the community and why the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine is a perfect fit.

In January, respected South Florida physician Cheryl Holder, M.D., will join Mora and David R. Brown, M.D., at the FIU-Employee Health Services providing faculty and staff convenient, cost-effective medical care and management of chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes.

All FIU health insurance plans are accepted. The $15 office visit co-payment is waived for employees in the HMO and PPO plans when services are on campus. Benefits or services not covered by FIU plans will be charged according to an established fee schedule.

Dependents of faculty and staff who have health insurance coverage through FIU’s plans may be eligible for the services in future.

Employee Health Services is located in the University Health Services Complex (room 154) at MMC and is open for patient visits on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 8 p.m.

While appointments are recommended, walk-ins are accepted. To make an appointment, call 305-348-DOCS (3627).
