FIU to host memorial service for Mike McQueen


The journalist served as chair of the journalism and broadcasting sequence at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. A service is scheduled for Nov. 7 at BBC.

Former School of Journalism and Mass Communication professor Mike McQueen passed away at age 52 on Oct. 25, 2009, from complications of cancer and congestive heart failure.

A funeral will be held Oct. 30 in New Orleans and a burial is set for Nov. 2 in St. Augustine, Fla.

A South Florida memorial service for McQueen is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 7, from 3-5 p.m., in the WUC Ballroom at Biscayne Bay Campus.

The Society of Professional Journalists has established the Mike McQueen Scholarship Fund in remembrance of the journalist and educator, whose career spanned three decades and included two stints with the AP and work on two Pulitzer Prize-winning newspaper teams.
