Name: Aileen Solá-Trautmann
Hometown: Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico
Job Title/Department: Senior Designer, Department of Publications
Campus: Modesto A. Maidique Campus
In a nutshell: I’m a designer in the Department of Publications and the art director of FIU Magazine. Some of my responsibilities are to art direct photo shoots for FIU Magazine and FIU other clients; and design brochures, folders, banners and anything else the university may need. Basically, my team and I strive to represent and keep the image of FIU on our publications consistent to the highest standards.
Number of years at FIU: 7
What do you enjoy most about your job?
The creative side of it. Every day I have a new challenge on how to portray FIU out in the community in a creative way.
What do you think faculty/staff and students should know about your department?
That we are here to help and that our professional knowledge on design can help them meet their goals and get their message across in the best possible way.
Where is your favorite spot on campus? Why?
The new College of Business complex. The lobby has great light for photos.
If there is one thing you wish everyone knew about FIU, what would it be?
Anyone who walks through the doors of FIU becomes a member of the family for life. This is a place for students, faculty, staff, everyone to come and learn and be a part of something great while they’re here and long after they’re gone.
Family snapshot:
I’m the youngest of three, born and raised in Puerto Rico, where I lived until I was 17. I then moved to Ohio for college and my Mom and dad moved to Deltona, Fla., six years ago (I visit them once a month). I’m a newlywed – I married a wonderful man, Jason Trautmann, last year. He works at FIU as well – he’s the business manager for the Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival. We just adopted the nicest Shih Tzu, Sandy.
Word that best describes you: Headstrong…but nice.
First paying job: Full-time freelancer designer at Victoria’s Secret’s headquarters in Ohio, in the design department.
Favorite TV show: “Mad Men” on AMC because, after all, it is about an ad agency. But I’m sorry to say that I really like “Gossip Girl” as well.
Your proudest accomplishment:
Finishing a half-marathon.
What do you do when you are not working at FIU?
Training for half-marathons and traveling whenever I can.
Aileen is one of my favorite people in the whole wide world to work with – and hang out with after hours. I’m very happy I’ve gotten to know her better over the years, and I really couldn’t have done FIU Magazine without her last year.
🙂
You are the best designer at FIU. Thanks for your design of our 2009-2010 Campus Security & Safety Guide. It’s the best we’ve ever had. You went above and beyond to complete it in short time, but on time too. Thanks for your photographic skills as well. I look forward to working with you on next years guide. Best wishes to you and your staff.
