I want to be in FIU’s lip dub music video

A lip dub is a type of video that combines lip synching and audio dubbing to make a music video. It’s made by filming individuals or a group of people lip syncing while listening to a song or any recorded audio then dubbing over it in post-editing with the original audio of the song.

Why is FIU doing a lip dub?lipdub

Fun. We want to share the FIU spirit with the world.

What song are we doing?

Help us choose. Send us your song suggestions. We’ll follow up in early January with a post of final song suggestions and let you, the participants, decide. Criteria for the song is not complicated: It should be a popular song and it would be great if it tied to FIU and global learning. Tying the song back to FIU and global learning isn’t a requirement, though. The main thing is that the song allow for a fun experience.

When is FIU’s lip dub event?

It is scheduled for Jan. 29 with one rehearsal day before, which is still to be determined. It is not mandatory to come to rehearsal but it could help secure a larger role for you in the production.

Where will it be filmed?

Graham Center. Most successful and engaging lip dubs are done in one take, no editing. The Graham Center affords us some great locations and it is easily one of the most recognizable FIU areas. (It was even featured heavily in the Chris Brown video, “Kiss Kiss.”)

Can I be in the video?

Yes. The only requirements are that you register with us online and that you sign a video/photo release on the day of the shoot.

Who’s paying for the production?

This event is sponsored by FIU’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), Global Learning for Global Citizenship. The Office of Global Learning wants to make sure FIU students are aware of FIU’s commitment to Global Learning. There will be some props and items related to this through the video; however, everyone involved is committed to keeping this about the song and having fun.

What should I do next?

Join the Facebook group. We will use this in tandem with this site to communicate about the event. In the first week of January we’ll have a formal sign up sheet and announce the rehearsal day and exact time of the shoot.

Post song recommendations in the comments below or on the Facebook group wall.

Here’s a great example of one of the best lip dubs out there:
