10th annual Jose Marti celebration to broadcast live from BBC


Univision Radio WQBA 1140 AM to simulcast panel presentation from 8-9:30 a.m.

In honor of Jose Marti Day, distinguished professors at FIU’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication (SJMC) and the Cuban Research Institute (CRI) will host a panel presentation Thursday, Jan. 28, on the Cuban patriot and the influence that remains more than 100 years after his death.

Simulcast live on Univision Radio WQBA 1140 AM from 8-9:30 a.m., the discussion will celebrate Marti’s legacy, including his contribution to journalism and his role as a forerunner of Cuba’s liberation. The free, public event will be led by panelists Teresa Ponte, professor and chair of the Department of Journalism and Broadcasting; Fernando Figueredo, professor and chair of the Department of Advertising and Public Relations; and Uva de Aragon, associate director of the CRI.

The panel will convene in the Mary Ann Wolfe Theater at FIU’s Biscayne Bay Campus.

Following the broadcast, the event will close with a special acknowledgment of this year’s recipients of the Jose Marti Scholarship.
