How you can help
The Haitian Consulate Task Force needs YOU
The School of Journalism and Mass Communication is assisting the consul general of Haiti with information systems and communication.
SJMC students have volunteered to participate in an emergency task force that will work directly under the Haitian Consulate in Miami with the purpose of assisting with the management of the Haiti relief efforts in South Florida. Organizers need more volunteers to assist in the following areas:
- Website updates
- Translation of web content from French into English and Haitian Creole.
- Managing media inquires and phone calls from the public and companies offering assistance
- Outreach to Spanish media contacts
Students who speak Spanish, French or Haitian Creole are especially needed. Most volunteer tasks require about four hours once a week Monday thru Friday during business hours.
Students interested in volunteering and learning more, please contact Dr. Maria Elena Villar at mevillar@fiu.edu.
Support FIU’s efforts in The Art of Giving: Shoes for Haiti initiative where FIU Art & Art History students will be donating children’s converse sneakers to over 500 orphans in three orphanages in Haiti. The students will adorn each donated pair of shoes with original artistic designs. Your contributions will assist with the purchasing of the shoes, the paint materials and/or the costs associated with shipping the sneakers to Haiti. Click here to donate now!
