FIU pays tribute to Beny Moré at Cuba Nostalgia


WHAT: Florida International University will commemorate the life of Cuban singer Beny Moré at the annual Cuba Nostalgia exhibition. FIU will be exhibiting a collection of Moré album covers from the Diaz-Ayala Cuban and Latin American Popular Music Collection donated to FIU’s Green Library.  FIU alumni, friends and family who update their contact information with the university at the FIU space will receive a reprint of a Beny Moré album cover from 1955, while supplies last.

Additionally, FIU’s College of Architecture and the Arts will display a satellite photo map of Havana where guests can find their old neighborhoods, schools or businesses and obtain a printout to take with them.  The university also will be selling a journal on Cuban propaganda published by the Wolfsonian-FIU museum.  Information about FIU academic and athletic programs also will be available.
Anyone who presents a current FIU student, faculty or staff ID will be given a discounted ticket of $10.

WHEN: Friday, May 21 and Saturday, May 22 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday, May 23 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Visitors will have the opportunity to chat with FIU Cuban art history professor Juan Martinez from 3 to 4 p.m. on Saturday and FIU mascot Roary will make appearances from 12 to 2p.m. on Saturday and 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday.

WHERE: Fair Expo Center, Coral Way and 112th Avenue, Miami, FL. The FIU space will be in Salon 2.
