Sen. George S. LeMieux to speak at FIU


LACC will host the lecture on “Promoting Economic and Political Freedom throughout the Western Hemisphere” Jan. 15.

FIU’s Latin American Caribbean Center (LACC) in partnership with the College of Law will present “Promoting Economic and Political Freedom throughout the Western Hemisphere,” a lecture by U.S. Sen. George S. LeMieux, on Friday, Jan. 15.

A native Floridian, Sen. LeMieux served as Florida’s deputy attorney general and chief of staff for Gov. Charlie Crist. He was sworn into the Senate in 2009 and currently serves on the Senate Armed Services, Commerce and Aging Committees.

The senator earned his undergraduate degree from Emory University and law degree from Georgetown University Law Center. After graduation, he returned to his hometown of Fort Lauderdale to practice law.

The talk, which is free and open to the public, is set for 10 a.m. in the Rafael Diaz-Balart Hall at Modesto A. Maidique Campus.
