“LC” to raise awareness for dating abuse at FIU Feb. 23

Lauren Conrad, the best-selling author of L.A. Candy and the former star of MTV’s The Hills, will visit Modesto A. Maidique Campus Tuesday, Feb. 23, to raise awareness for dating abuse and partner violence.

As the spokesperson and honorary co-chair of m.powerment by mark, Conrad seeks to empower students – especially young women – to break the cycle of abuse.

The event is set to begin at noon in the FIU Bookstore, with a talk by “LC,” as Conrad is known to fans, and a Q&A session with a peer educator leader from the Health Relationship Training Academy of New York City. A meet-and-greet will follow, during which Conrad will sign copies of her new book, Sweet Little Lies, and spread the message of the m.powerment fund.

To meet LC, 150 guests can purchase $22 worth of mark m.powerment products (i.e., a bracelet or necklace), as well as Sweet Little Lies, in the FIU Bookstore. One hundred percent of the net proceeds raised from sales of these products goes directly to the cause.

Update: news.FIU.edu caught up with Lauren Conrad in the Frost Art Museum before her appearance in the FIU bookstore and found out that she was “very excited to be at FIU.”
