Love definitely was in the air as 19 couples gathered in the Ronald W. Reagan Presidential House at Modesto A. Maidique Campus a few days before Valentine’s Day. But these were no ordinary couples…these were blue-and-gold-couples.

To celebrate the love stories that got their start at FIU, President Mark B. Rosenberg and his wife Rosalie, in conjunction with the Alumni Association, tracked down a group of FIU alumni who met at the university and have been together ever since.

President and Mrs. Rosenberg said the inaugural Panther Togetherness, held at MMC Wednesday, Feb. 10, was the start of a new tradition they hope will grow as more and more Panthers join the Alumni Association and share with their alma mater their love stories.

Among the couples in attendance were Torch Award winner Frank Ramos, Esq. ’93 and his wife Ana Ramos ’93 – they have been together 20 years and married for 16 – and newlyweds Michael Hernandez ’04 and Christine Cento ’05, who were married a few weeks ago on Jan. 23.

The lovebirds shared memories about their courtship and enjoyed a performance by freshman Vicky Lopez, who delighted everyone with a few of romantic songs.
