Name: Stephanie Strange ’01
Hometown: Smithtown, N.Y.
Job Title/Department: Assistant Director of Recruitment and Retention, Dean’s Office, College of Engineering and Computing
Campus: Engineering Center
In a nutshell: I’m involved in everything: recruitment, retention of students, outreach, public relations, student services, planning, events projects, etc.
Number of years at FIU: 8
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Watching students thrive, grow and achieve.
What do you think faculty/staff and students should know about your department?
That we are genuinely motivated to do what is in the best interest of the college, faculty and students.
Where is your favorite spot on campus? Why?
The 2005 Solar House and Central Park Brick Path at the Engineering Center. I was on the 2005 Solar Decathlon team, so the remodeling of the Solar house and the existing park and brick path are a tribute to our efforts. Theta Tau, the engineering fraternity, provided all the landscaping for the park as a legacy project.
If there is one thing you wish everyone knew about FIU, what would it be?
I would like to see FIU’s reputation grow outside Miami-Dade County.
Family snapshot:
I have a beautiful 30-year-old daughter, Eden, who recently got engaged and bought a house in Deerfield Beach.
Word that best describes you: Others have told me that I am funny.
First paying job: Belmont Racetrack hot-walker.
Favorite TV show: I don’t have cable, so whatever is on quickly becomes my favorite.
What is playing on your iPod?
I wish I had an iPod or an iPhone.
Your proudest accomplishment:
Raising my daughter.
What do you do when you are not working at FIU?
I have taken ballet class for the last 40 years.
I miss Stephanie Strange! Before I graduated from the College of Engineering in 2003, Ms. Strange was the most caring staff member. I recall working with her to put on the first annual Engineering Gala during Engineers' Week. She definitely made a difference while I was there and I am sure that she continues to do so. I didn't recognize her picture because she had short hair when I knew her but she looks great with long hair as well. Ms. Strange, if you read this, I hope you realize what a treasure you are to all the students: past, present, and future!
Stephanie Strange is AWESOME 🙂
Yep. Steph IS Awesome!!!
What a great inspiration you must be to your co workers and students. WIshing you the best in your life and career. Sarah
