The road to SoBe, Pt. 2

Nicolas Moore is a hospitality management student at FIU working as a student associate for the Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival Feb. 25-28. We asked Panthers such as Moore who are working on “SoBe” to share their experiences leading up to the event.

Nicolas Moore always heard "amazing stories" about "SoBe." Today, he is working on creating some of his own.

Hospitality has always been an interest to me…I feel like I am cut out for it.

Ever since high school I have known that this would be the career path I would one day follow. And here I am now. As an undergraduate in the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at FIU, I am learning the essential tools to bring my passion to reality.

Right now I am a front desk agent at the Sofitel Hotel, a line of luxury hotels with a French flair. While it may not sound like I hold an important job, it’s really cool because I am, essentially, the face of the hotel. I deal directly with the guests. I am ultimately responsible for supplying them with a “stunning blend of modernity, elegance and comfortable” experience. It has only been two months, but I hope to stay with the company while I’m in school. Upon my graduation, I would like to transfer to an exotic location, such as Bali or Colombia. That would be incredible!

This is my first time working on SoBe. I have always heard these amazing stories about the festival from the other FIU students, and I wanted to have some stories of my own.

Last week I had an interview on campus for a student associate position on the festival team. I was so impressed by how efficient the whole process was. From the moment I signed up to the interview itself, it was very easy. I told the interviewer that I would be willing to do anything, from unloading boxes to cutting potatoes.

I just want to experience one of the most extravagant wine and food festivals in the nation, and maybe even the world. I have been assigned to work at the Whole Foods Market Grand Tasting Village.

In the next couple of weeks I will be receiving more information, so stay tuned.
