Wolfsonian-FIU to host PechaKucha Global Day for Haiti

The museum will raise funds that will go toward assisting rebuilding efforts in the island nation on Feb. 20.

The Wolfsonian–FIU will join the PechaKucha global community and the Miami Chapter of Architecture for Humanity (AFH) to raise awareness and assist with the rebuilding plans for Haiti by taking part in a continuous 24-hour edition of PechaKucha Night on Saturday, Feb. 20, from 4-6 p.m.

Devised in Tokyo in 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network and showcase their work in public, PechaKucha has evolved into a massive celebration, with events happening in hundreds of cities around the world, inspiring creatives worldwide.

Drawing its name from the Japanese term for the sound of “chit chat,” the night unfolds in a presentation format based on a simple idea: 20 images each presented for 20 seconds. It is a format that makes presentations concise and keeps things moving at a rapid pace.

Kicking off the series of events at the SuperDeluxe in Tokyo, where PechaKucha was first conceived seven years ago, the presentation wave will travel eastward, with cities presenting one after the other. Crossing all times zones and cultures, the events will be streamed live online and then finish in Tokyo the following day.

The Wolfsonian-FIU suggests a minimum $10 donation per person, with all proceeds going toward the AFH’s Earthquake Reconstruction in Haiti project.
