Police searching for suspects but believe there is no immediate threat to the university community.
The FIU family is shocked and saddened by the death of one of our students, Kendall Berry, who was stabbed on the Modesto A. Maidique Campus Thursday evening, March 25.
Kendall, 22, a junior from Haines City, FL, was a running back on our football team.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Kendall’s family,” said FIU President Mark B. Rosenberg. “We are here to support them and our entire university community as all of us come to terms with this tragedy.”
Police are looking for suspects in this killing. At this time, police believe there is no immediate threat to the university community.
Because this is an ongoing investigation, we cannot reveal any more information. We hope to have more details as this investigation develops.

omg. I'm so sorry this happened.
I really didn't think FIU could be host to this kind of thing. This is very sad.
The police reported that a verbal exchange took place in front of the rec center, thus lighting is not of a concern here. It was probably over some ignorant topic, and led to a terrible outcome.
My thoughts to the family and may the victim rest in peace. Hopefully officials will learn that this can happen anywhere and security on universities should not be taken lightly. It is a shame this happened in FIU. Where is the security of the student body? It is not the first incident! We have seen criminal acts in many other Universities. Take actions so students can feel safe!!!!! Night patrols should be established strategically all over campus! Not on cars where prevention is minimum! Patrol by foot and keep us safe!
RIP Kendall! You will be missed. Here is a pic of Kendall Barry – http://twitpic.com/1ay4vc

R.I.P HOMIE CONCERNS GO OUT TO UR FAMLY
FIU needs more security cameras (that actually work) and better lighting. We cannot wait for another tragedy to occur so they can consider upgrading the security in this school. As a woman, I do not feel secured walking to the dark areas around campus, which is almost the whole campus. Those in charge, please consider making a change for the security of the fiu community please
My thoughts go out to the family. I pray they will be comforted. How sad…
this can happen in ANY PLACE! what’s important is not who to blame but the fact that a person is now dead. RIP KB
I went to haines city high with him even Eastside elementary, good dude no fights, our QB , wide receiver, really a guy with Potential!!! Will miss you RIP. I will try very hard to make it to your funeral, i know you'll be burried in your city Haines City Fl, 863!
No amount of security can prevent someone from injuring another person if he truly wants to. What we need is to reach out to our fellow students more and find out what is going on with them.
I heard this incident started over a pastry being shoved in someone’s face. Any truth to that?
I pray for his family and close friends, Rest In Peace KB. Make sure to watch over us from up there !
Unbelieveable!
My thoughts and prayers go to the family
Stronger security is indeed necessary or no one will feel safe anymore!
R.I.P. KB
This is tragic. Such a young man with so much life ahead of him taken away for nothing. The younger generations need to learn that violence is not the answer! Kendall has a mother who is left to grieve. How would the perpetrator's mother feel had it been him that has to be buried. People need to learn to think before they act! College students without enough common sense to walk away! This is scary and senseless but it is what our world is coming to. I hope the person who did this is caught quickly because animals conduct themselves better than this person did. My sincerst condolences are with Kendall's mother and his family.
My prayers are with the family and friends of Kendall. I pray that God will give them peace in this time of mourning. FIU Community, don't lose hope because God is still in control today as he was last night. I however, do agree that something needs to be done with the safety on campus. Lighting is very poor and let's face it if we all called public safety to walk us to our cars, there will never be enough public safety workers to go around. We need a safety plan!
My heart goes out to Kendall's family. R.I.P Kendall you will truly be missed
May God bless the family and friend and easy their pain. it's very sad to see a young life taken away. God Bless
My heart goes out to Kendall's family during what must be a surreal and incredibly devastating time. To see such a young, promising life cut short is horrifying and we need to remember that not every day is promised, so if anything can be taken from this tragedy, be thankful for what you have.
I am in shock that this has occurred to one of the students inside the Campus. My prayers go to his family and friends. It is really sad that such a young man has lost his life in such tragic way. I think that security should be increaed around the Campus. I take classes at night ,and sometimes I walk through the parking garages without seeing anyone, and I always feel scared and insecure because I do not feel safety there.I would like to see more night patrols walking around the whole Campus so that we can feel more safety.
It is really sad that things like this happen in our university. My heart and prayers go out to his friends and family. FIU needs to address security issues IMMEDIATELY. LIke someone said they should have cops placed in strategic locations, for example Graham Center, patrolling the area on foot and not in cars. I hardly ever see any of them at night when I walk to my car. I don't know where they hide. A couple of semesters ago during finals week, I was walking with two of my classmates to the Green Library to study for a final exam we had the following day, We took a shortcut via GC, and to our surprise there were a bunch of what seemed to be high school punks sitting on the little round tables by the salon and the GC lab. They asked us for money for the bus and when we told them we didn't have any, they got aggressive and offensive and started calling us names like bit____, moth_____, etc, etc. I called public safety right away and notified them of the incident. I don't really know if a long-term solution was implemented as I have never again stayed that late in the university, Ever since that happened, I don't stay on campus past 10 pm and I have NEVER gone back to the library to study at such late hours of the night. Something definitely needs to be done so that students can feel safe while being on campus, regardless of the location and time. As far as the cops, they should concentrate more on keeping the students safe and less on the parking tickets…. Sad but true!
Although I had only had the pleasure of working with Kendall briefly on a class project last spring, during that time I knew him to be a very nice guy and a great worker-and, a fantastic player. My heart goes out to those closest to him.
Our prayers are with Kendall's family, and it is a shame to loose someone in such tragic way, with such a bright future!
MAY MY PRAYERS TOUCH YOUR FAMILY AND LOVED ONES AND HELP THEM MAKE IT THRU SUCH A TRAGEDY! ANOTHER YOUNG BRIGHT LIFE ANG FUTURE GONE TO VIOLENCE, THESE YOUNGSTERS THINK THEIR SO GROWN UP 2 JUST DEMOLISH ANOTHER LIFE, MY HEART IS HEAVY BECUZ WHEN WILL IT CEASE? MY CONDOLENCES AGAIN TO THE FAMILY & FRIENDS OF KENDALL BERRY. RIP KENDALL U WILL BE GREATLY MISSED. MUAH!
