FIU student named 2010 Social Worker of the Year

Jan Hoppe, a Master of Social Work student at FIU, has been named the 2010 Florida Student Social Worker of the Year by the Florida Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers. She was previously selected as the Miami-Dade Unit’s Student Social Worker of the Year.

The award, which was formally announced at the Social Work Gala on March 4, was based on Hoppe’s leadership, service to the community and academic achievement.  She is president of the FIU Chapter of Phi Alpha, the social work honor society.

Congratulations also to Mary Helen Hayden, who is the Phi Alpha advisor and has worked closely with Hoppe in the past year.
