FIU Theatre closes season with “The Cherry Orchard”


Panthers will stage Anton Chekhov’s play at MMC March 4-14.

FIU Theatre will close out its 2009-’10 season with a staging of Anton Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard in the Wertheim Performing Arts Center at Modesto A. Maidique Campus.

Opening night is Thursday, March 4. They play will run through March  14, with show times set for 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.

The Cherry Orchard tells the story of a Russian family facing the threat of losing their home and beloved cherry orchard due to finances and changes in the world. The play depicts a class conflict that occurred at the end of the 19th century and shows how the higher class lost power and wealth but refused to part with the belief that they were born naturally superior to others.
