Governor appoints two new members to FIU’s Board of Trustees

MIAMI – Gov. Charlie Crist today appointed Sukrit Agrawal, chief executive officer of American Medical Depot, and Marcelo Claure, chairman and chief executive officer of  Brightstar Corp. to serve on Florida International University’s Board of Trustees.

Agrawal and Claure’s five-year appointments take effect March 10, 2010. They will fill seats held by R. Kirk Landon, whose term expired on the same day, and Patricia Frost, who the governor appointed to the Board of Governors in January.

“Our newest members will add new perspectives to an already dynamic and entrepreneurial board,” said Board of Trustees Chairman Albert Dotson. “With their help, FIU will sustain its momentum and continue to reach into all areas of our community so that this university can meet its full potential.”

The Board of Trustees is responsible for cost-effective policy, implementing and maintaining high-quality education programs consistent with the university’s mission, performance evaluation, and developing a process meeting state policy, budgeting, and education standards.
