Honorees of the 2010 Paths of Public Health Awards to be recognized


MIAMI – FIU’s Robert Stempel College of Public Health and Social Work is committed to recognizing outstanding South Floridians who are working to improve and maintain the health of the community. As a result, FIU will honor the Paths of Public Health Awards recipients on April 6, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. in the Graham Center Ballrooms at FIU’s Modesto A. Maidique Campus, 11200 SW 8th St., Miami. Registration is required.

The Paths of Public Health Awards was established to recognize individuals and organizations in public health, including social work and dietetics, for their contributions and commitment to promoting and protecting the health of the South Florida community. 

The awards serve to raise the community’s awareness and understanding of the contributions made by public health professionals and intended to recognize the contributions and achievements of the award recipients.  Honorees will receive awards based upon their impact in improving the health of the public.  

The 2010 Paths of Public Health Award recipients are as follows:

Robert Stempel Award:  Martha Pelaez, Health Foundation of South Florida

Health Policy and Management: Michael DeLucca, Broward Regional Health Planning Council

Health Promotion and Disease Prevention: Evelyn Ullah, Miami-Dade County Health Department

Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance: James Hall, Center for the Study and Prevention of Substance Abuse

Social Work: Alina Wetzstein, Camillus Health Concern, Inc.

Nutrition and Dietetics: Lucille Beseler, Family Nutrition Center of South Florida

Environmental and Occupational Health: William Brookman, Monroe County Health Department
