Panther named ESPN.com SBC Recruiter of the Year

Frank Ponce ’97 was one of the coaches recognized with the honor in February.

FIU wide receivers coach Frank Ponce ’97 was named among the Sun Belt Conference’s top recruiters by ESPN.com in February.

Ponce graduated from the university with a degree in physical education. He coached high school football in Dade County for almost 15 years before moving into the collegiate ranks – and returning to his alma mater.

Last month, he scored FIU’s first-ever ESPN Top 150 recruit when Miami Spring’s Willis Wright signed a national letter of intent to play for the Panthers. Ponce was also responsible for reeling in highly coveted cornerback Khambrel McGee from Northwestern.
