Police pursue perpetrator in stabbing of Kendall Berry

Police continue to pursue the perpetrator in a stabbing that occurred Thursday evening on the FIU-Modesto Maidique Campus. The incident resulted in the death of Kendall Berry, 22, a student-athlete from Haines City, Florida majoring in education.

Special precautions have been taken and campus security has been increased. Students returning to the residence halls are being escorted to their rooms and advised to keep doors locked. Any member of the university community who would like to be accompanied as they walk on campus, is invited to call the FIU Department of Public Safety at 305-348-2626.

The university’s support system is in place and counselors are already meeting with members of the football team and on-campus residents. Students wishing to speak with someone from our Counseling Center should call 305-348-2434.

All classes and other university events will take place as scheduled on Friday.

The university community will be updated as more details become available.

President Mark Rosenberg will address the university community through the FIU website Friday morning.
