$1-per-student campaign to aid Haiti’s recovery

WHAT: Florida International University’s student leaders are launching a campaign on Haitian Flag Day to raise money for ongoing relief efforts in Haiti. The goal is to raise one dollar per student – about $40,000. Columbus Networks, a telecommunications services provider, will match up to $25,000 of the student contributions.
Contributions can be made at the FIU bookstores on the Modesto A. Maidique Campus (MMC) or Biscayne Bay Campus (BBC) or at the Recreation Center on MMC. No purchase is necessary. FIU faculty and staff also can contribute to help the students accomplish their goal.
The student campaign is part of FIU’s long-term commitment to Haiti and the money raised will go toward FIU efforts for Haiti’s recovery.

WHO: Representatives from the FIU Student Government Association and Columbus Networks will be at the campaign kickoff event, along with students and other members of the FIU community.

WHEN: The campaign kickoff will be held on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at noon.

WHERE: Florida International University Modesto A. Maidique Campus, 11200 SW 8th St., Miami, FL, Graham Center Pit.
