Alumni Spotlight: Diana Beltran ’07

Name: Diana C. Beltran ’07

Degree Bachelor in Hospitality Travel and Tourism, Minor in Hotel and Lodging.

My work: I’m the environmental development manager at the Grand Hyatt New York Hotel. I work with and assist cross-functional departments developing policies and standard work environment tools to reduce our operational carbon footprint. The newest addition to my duties is social media, the new way of green communication.

My inspiration: The thought of tomorrow’s world for our future generations. The people around me: my family, friends and co-workers alike.

My family: I was born in Colombia. My father resides in Bogota and mother in Boca Raton. In addition to my parents, I grew up with three supportive sisters and a loving stepfather. I am a very proud of being a big sister to three baby brothers and a friend to my stepmother. The latest addition to my family is my beautiful baby niece, Mia Maureen.

My proudest accomplishment: As an environmental development manager, being awarded Manager of the 3rd Quarter in 2009 for accomplishing set goals that involved obtaining the NYS Green Leaf Certification for the hotel (scored 4 out of 5) and meeting an over projected score for associate engagement survey scores.

How do you bleed Blue & Gold? I am a very proud Panther – I actually carry around pens and folders from FIU, which always call attention and start conversations at work. In my apartment, I have a corner dedicated to pictures and items from FIU to show off my pride. Since I moved to New York, I have stayed active by attending the Alumni Association’s receptions in the area and networking with the alumni I meet. I am very grateful to have such a giving university that brings back great memories. I give credit to my professors and experience there for getting me to the place I am today.
