Telescope in Chile allows FIU SARA astronomers view of elliptical galaxy

Through the efforts of the Southeastern Association for Research in Astronomy, which is a consortium of 10 universities including Florida International University, astronomers at FIU were recently able to view a giant elliptical galaxy colliding with a spiral galaxy.

Images such as these are normally only visible from the Southern Hemisphere, Centaurus A. For more information on the consortium click here.  The photo was taken from FIU on the first full night in which astronomers were able to view images through a refurbished telescope in Chile.
