FIU’s Panthers (31-22, 17-13 Sun Belt Conference) could not overcome a seven-run seventh inning, falling to the FAU Owls (33-20, 21-9 SBC), 14-10, May 22 – but our own Garrett Wittels extended his NCAA leading hit streak to 48 games on the season with an RBI double, putting him in sole possession of second place all-time in Division I baseball history.

Wittels is now 10 games shy of Robin Ventura’s all-time mark of 58 set in 1987.

With their win over the weekend, the Owls clinched the SBC regular season title and the top overall seed in the conference tournament. Meanwhile, FIU will go into the Sun Belt Tournament, set for May 26-29, in Murfreesboro, Tenn., as the No. 4 seed.
