FIU kicks off $1-Per-Student Campaign to raise funds for Haiti


Through a partnership with a North Miami Beach-based telecommunications services provider, the FIU Student Government Association will raise up to $65,000 for the university’s efforts for Haiti’s recovery. Everyone is encourage to contribute and help make a difference.

Haitian Flag Day (May 18) was another key date in FIU’s ongoing efforts to lend a helping hand to Haiti and the Haitian community in South Florida as administrators, faculty/staff, students and university partners gathered in the GC Pit at Modesto A. Maidique Campus to kick off the $1-Per-Student Campaign.

The initiative is the latest in a series of events that FIU has engaged in as it does its part to assist the island nation.

FIU mobilizes Creole-speaking interpreters.

The goal of the $1-Per-Student Campaign is to raise one dollar per FIU student – about $40,000.

Columbus Networks, a telecommunications services provider, will match up to $25,000 of the student contributions, which can be made at FIU bookstores at both MMC and Biscayne Bay Campus or at the Recreation Center at MMC.

Collaboration between FIU University of Haiti keeps moving forward.

Paul Scott, president and COO of Columbus Networks, said the company is proud to participate in the $1-Per-Student Campaign and recognized the commitment of FIU and its students to Haiti’s reconstruction.
