In a nutshell: I develop and direct research and development in renewable fuels (like ethanol and biodiesel) and renewable power (solar, wind, ocean) and work with the private sector to commercialize green/clean technologies.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Working in an industry (renewable energy) that can help our economy and way of living become more sustainable for generations to come.

What do you think students and your fellow faculty/staff should know about your department?

ARC is the technology arm of FIU helping research ideas become commercial innovations.

Where is your favorite spot on campus? Why?

The Frost Art Museum. It’s peaceful, with lots of light and open space (inside and out). It takes your mind away from the daily routine.

What is one thing you wish everyone knew about FIU?

We are getting stronger.

How are you “Worlds Ahead”?

By instilling self-confidence in young people as they start their careers.

First paying job: I worked in the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL) in Denver, Colo.

Favorite TV show: 60 Minutes, although I’m not a TV fan.

A mix, from Santana and Madness to Shakira and Cyanna.

Your proudest accomplishment:

Being recognized as an international expert in clean tech business and technology.

What do you do when you are not working at FIU?

Lots of tennis, lots of world travel, and The Economist.
