Wittels in sole possession of the third-longest streak in Division I history

The FIU infielder extends hitting streak to 46

With a double to center field in the first inning against in-state rivals FAU, sophomore Garrett Wittels extended his NCAA-leading hitting streak to 46 games. He is now in sole possession of third place in the NCAA all-time hitting streak list, behind Phil Stephenson of Wichita State who had a 47-game run in 1981.

The team went on to defeat the Owls 12-4.

“Individual accomplishments are great in baseball and sitting alone in third place on the hit streak list is pretty cool, but the biggest thing is we got a win over a tough team in FAU and we need to keep it up the rest of the weekend in order to go into the conference tournament on a hot streak,” said Wittels, who has had a hit in every game he’s played this season.

The Panthers face FAU again Friday night at the FAU Baseball Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
