Alumna and Army Reservist joins Defense Logistics Agency

FIU graduate and Army Reserve 2nd Lt. Angela J. Valcin ’02 has been assigned to the Defense Logistics Agency’s Joint Reserve Force at Fort Belvoir, Va.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to serve in the military again. I’m ready to begin soldiering again,” she said, having taken a service break six years ago after the birth of a son.

Valcin earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in 2002 from FIU and an MBA from the University of Phoenix in 2008. She will be working as a human resources specialist in her new assignment.

On the civilian side, she works for the Department of Homeland Security Air Marshall Service. She and her husband, Alexander, have two sons, Gavin and Caleb. The family resides in Orlando.

As the Department of Defense’s combat logistics support agency, DLA provides the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, other federal agencies, and joint and allied forces with a variety of logistics, acquisition and technical services. The agency sources and provides nearly 100 percent of the consumable items America’s military forces need to operate, from food, fuel and energy, to uniforms, medical supplies, and construction and barrier equipment. DLA also supplies about 84 percent of the military’s spare parts.
