Sign up for July 4 race that begins and ends in FIU football stadium

Celebrate July 4th with this unique 5K

Bring your family and friends and celebrate Independence Day with an early-morning 5K run that begins and ends in FIU’s football stadium. Miami-Dade County Parks and Recreation and BlueCross BlueShield of Florida are hosting the event, which is the last race of the 2009-2010 BlueCross BlueShield of Florida Running Series.

The 5K race (3.1 miles) begins Sunday, July 4, at 7:04 a.m. (get it?) and winds through the spacious, tree-lined paths of Tamiami Park. The race will have a unique start and finish at FIU’s football stadium, home of Panther football. Participants will get to cross the finish line in the end zone.

Runners can register online until 4 p.m. July 3. Registration prior to the deadline is $25. Registration on race day is $30. Children 2 to 9 years of age can run for $5 each.

Commemorative awards and prize money will be given to the top male/female finishers in a number of categories.
