Alumnus to be honored by President Obama for excellence in teaching


FIU alumnus Allan Phipps MS ’00, the 2011 Broward County Teacher of the Year, has won the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching and will be recognized at the White House later this year.

The South Plantation High School environmental science teacher is the only teacher in South Florida to be honored. He earned his master’s degree in biology at FIU.
