What do you enjoy most about your job?

I love teaching. I have two undergraduate degrees, one of which is in music performance, which means I am comfortable in front of people. One of my former music teachers had described me as “the world’s biggest hot dog.” When I teach, the performer in me comes out. I try to make my class informative, challenging and fun.

What do you think students and your fellow faculty/staff should know about your department?

Each of the departments in which I have taught is fantastic. They stress the importance of teaching and learning.

Where is your favorite spot on campus? Why?

My classroom. It is where I teach and where I can give something back to FIU.

What is one thing you wish everyone knew about FIU?

FIU has fantastic students dedicated to learning and growing. There is a very high level of academic learning going on at FIU.

How is FIU “Worlds Ahead”?

When I attended the College of Law, I saw the college incorporates global comparative topics into the curriculum. Our global society requires educated persons to have a keen awareness of global influences. FIU is worlds ahead in not just having “International” as part of its name, but in ensuring that students are educated and prepared to be part of international society in many careers.

Family snapshot:

My wife, Clara (also a proud FIU alumnus); our two sons, Binyomin and Eliezer; two birds, Paquita and Doozy; and our beautiful chinchilla, Pepper.

Word that best describes you: Outgoing.

First paying job: Delivering a community newspaper when I was 10 years old.

Favorite TV show: M*A*S*H.

What is playing on your iPod?

Appalachian Spring, Festive Overture and Maynard Ferguson.

Your proudest accomplishment:

I am a proud graduate of the first-ever FIU College of Law night class. I worked full time during the day, went to law school at night and took care of my family all at the same time.

What do you do when you are not working at FIU?

I spend time with my family, listen to music and watch baseball.
