Principality of Monaco Boys’ Choir visits FIU July 24

The renowned boys’ choir of the Principality of Monaco has again chosen North America for its annual summer tour and will offer a series of free concerts around the United States that will include Miami.

The choir will perform at FIU on Saturday, July 24, at 7 p.m., in the Wertheim Performing Arts Center, Concert Hall, at Modesto A. Maidique Campus.

Admission is free and open to the public.

The musical repertoire, directed by Pierre Debat, will include sacred musical works by Charpentier, Bach, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Fauré and Franck; French and Monégasque folk songs; English-language songs such as “My Love is a Red, Red Rose”; and patriotic American songs including “God Bless America,” “America the Beautiful” and “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

The award-winning boys’ choir, founded in 1973 under the patronage of H.S.H. Prince Rainier III, brings together more than 30 children’s voices. Created to showcase the principality’s historic association with culture and the performing arts, the choir is a part of the Monaco Cathedral Choir and is composed of talented children as young as 8 years old, who have passed rigorous examinations to be admitted into the prestigious group.

With the generous support of the Monégasque government, the choir is able to donate its talents to concerts organized on behalf of humanitarian associations throughout the world.
